Whoa! I needed to read this today … A bit of a reminder that my own heart is constantly in need of change and refinement …
Pray that just as Jesus changes the lower earthly nature of bread and wine into His body and blood, He might change and transform also the sluggish, coldness and dryness of our earthly and arid heart … into the fire, tenderness and agility of the holy divine affections and dispositions of His divine and heavenly heart.
(from St. John Eudes’ What We Must Do to Assist Worthily at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass)
St. John Eudes, whom I had never heard of until today, lived from 1601-1680 in France. He was a priest and gifted preacher. He encouraged devotions to the twin Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Specially concerned to council and defend endangered women, he founded an association of priests and religious, the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity (Good Shepherd Sisters). Today is his feast day.
Our wish, our object, our chief preoccupation must be to form Jesus in ourselves, to make his spirit, his devotion, his affections, his desires and his disposition live and reign there. All our religious exercises should be directed to this end. It is the work which God has given us to do unceasingly.

St. John Eudes, ora pro nobis!
