She cheers on\u00a0her sister at volleyball games, plays cars with\u00a0her little brother, and helps out in the kitchen. She is pretty low key, not demanding\u00a0a lot of extra attention. She does receive extra time and attention because of her Dyslexia, though\u2014tutoring twice per week, help with homework, comforting when her anxiety flares.<\/p>\n<p>Her siblings are learning how to be empathetic towards her, but it is not always picture perfect. But like any family situation\u2014whether it is Dyslexia, another learning disability, or a more\u00a0temporary\u00a0dilemma\u2014it is important for a family to stick together. When one person is having a difficult time with something, it is helpful to have compassionate, empathetic people on your side.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are just a few ideas\u00a0siblings can do to understand the world of Dyslexia:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Older siblings can offer to read books to their sister or brother. Audio books are extremely beneficial to people with Dyslexia, and having a family member read aloud can be even better, because it involves\u00a0treasured time together, too.<\/p>\n<p>Encourage older sibs to understand the world of Dyslexia by reading a novel where the character has Dyslexia, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0399162593\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0399162593&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=morthaeno03-20&amp;linkId=2eeec52f8c83648727a5a584229821ed\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Fish in a Tree<\/em><\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Lynda Mullaly Hunt.<\/p>\n<p>Have a sibling observe\u00a0a tutoring session, so he\/she can understand what their brother\/sister\u00a0experiences.<\/p>\n<p>As a family, watch a\u00a0movie, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00DT55OCM\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00DT55OCM&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=morthaeno03-20&amp;linkId=c5bf181a0acdf4969b52d91a9e81a4d7\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carve out time to honor, uplift, and compliment one another. This not only benefits the Dyslexic child; it is encouraging to all family members.<\/p>\n<p>Help children remember that everyone struggles with something at some point in life. We don&#8217;t have to have the exact same experiences to feel compassion for each other.
