Day 13 :: 31 Days With Mary—Our Lady of Fatima

Day 13 :: 31 Days With Mary—Our Lady of Fatima

The message of Fatima is an appeal to conversion. In her motherly solicitude, the Blessed Virgin came here, to Fatima, to ask men not to offend God any more. It was a mother’s sorrow that obliged her to speak. —Saint John Paul II— Today is Day 13 of my 31 Days With Mary series, an entire month writing about one topic with hundreds of other bloggers. While May 13 is the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, today we remember the day in…

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mary and Child by Andrey Shishkin A Mother’s Day Reflection … Many things can change and have changed in cultural and social evolution, but there remains the fact that it is the woman who conceives, carries and gives birth to the sons and daughters of men. And this is not simply a biological fact, but also gives rise to a wealth of implications both for the woman herself, for her way of being, and for her relationships, for the way…

Must-See Movie!

Must-See Movie!

This is a wonderful movie on the lives of St. Clare and St. Francis. What I really liked about it was how the friendship between Clare and Francis was portrayed. She played a major role in his life … and he in hers. And it was captured so beautifully. Going into the movie, I did not know a lot about St. Clare, but what a marvelous woman! I loved learning more about her. This movie is available through Netflix.

Drive-In

Drive-In

Recently, we were able to check off another item on the summer fun list. We went to see Toy Story 3. At the drive-in! We packed up our van (and Grandma’s car, too) with blankets, a big bag of freshy-popped-on-the-stove popcorn and a few candy treats. The kids put on their PJs. And we headed out early to get a good spot, which we did, front and center. The waiting was a bit tough, but the kids did pretty well…

Mama’s Day Off

Mama’s Day Off

Yesterday morning, my mom packed up all of the kids, and they headed over to Wisconsin to spend the day with my mom’s sister and her five-year-old granddaughter. Yes, the entire day away. All of them. They had plans to go to a park, have a picnic, watch a movie, make graham-cracker sandwiches with frosting and enjoy plenty of play time. And do you know what that meant for me? A day off! A real day off! I promised myself…

Robin Hood

Robin Hood

A month or so ago, my husband and I stumbled upon a delightful series that is available on Netflix. Robin Hood was a series on BBC but after three seasons has ended. However, seasons one and two are currently available on Netflix (to rent or to watch instantly), and season three is available to rent only. We just started season two, and it has been a really fun series to watch. There’s, of course, action … But there’s also some…

An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving

An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving

I recently enjoyed An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving. It was just right for this time of year. I was pleasantly surprised to find a movie about Thanksgiving, the holiday that’s so lovely yet almost forgotten in our commercial-Christmas society. (Have you been to Target recently? Or have you looked through the Sunday newspaper ads? It’s as if Christmas is a week away, not six!) I rented An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving at Blockbuster, but I see that it will be airing on the Hallmark…

A Bushel and A Peck

A Bushel and A Peck

One of our favorite fall traditions is to go apple picking with my husband’s sister’s family. Yesterday was our seventh-annual trip! It also was the coldest apple picking day thus far and therefore the shortest apple picking excursion, too. It was 37 degrees yesterday … Brrrr! So, some of the expressions in these photos might reflect more of how cold it was than how much fun it was! =) Now we have baskets of delicious apples! Yay!! I hope to…

St. Rita Movie

St. Rita Movie

This weekend, I checked out this movie from my parish’s library. My mom and I watched it Saturday night, along with my aunt and her friend. It was an excellent portrayal of the life of St. Rita. Beautifully done. I find it so exciting and encouraging to see so many quality movies coming out about the lives of the saints. It is our progress in media and technology put to good use! Anyway, if you have the opportunity to see…

OK. I liked it.

OK. I liked it.

I took my husband to see Star Trek for his birthday. It was his pick, of course, and I was going along because it was part of his gift. I didn’t care if I would like the movie or not, nor was I expecting to like it. I was happy to go just for him. But I did like the movie. I liked it a lot. And my husband was very kind not to say, “I told you so.” I’ve…
