Celebrating 34

Celebrating 34

Yesterday, on the way to school, my preschooler asked me, “Who is coming to your birthday?” I named her and her sisters and brother and, of course, her dad. And then she asked me, “But what about the guests?” I went on to tell her that the most important people in my life are all of you, and you are the guests with whom I want to celebrate my birthday … I’ve always loved my birthday. Sometimes I’m a little…

Forty!

Forty!

Not me … … but the temperature outside today! We ran errands and picked up my two oldest from school this afternoon without winter jackets. Just sweaters and hooded sweatshirts. It. felt. heavenly. It is amazing what a little sunshine and warmer temperatures can do to one’s spirit. It has given me an extra boost, a lift of my heart, a spring in my step. It’s a little thing, but even a little thing can be a BIG blessing. Thank…

Corners

Corners

There’s not much to look at—the walls are very white and the floors are very beige. And some of the appliances (and other mechanicals, like certain plumbing apparatuses) are a bit temperamental. But it’s clean and bright, warm and safe. And for the next six or so months it meets the need of providing shelter for our family. I’ve been trying not to complain, when I run out of space on the pantry shelf or I can’t find a spot…

Grandpas

Grandpas

We haven’t been out much lately. It’s been a bit too cold to be bundling up kids and toddlers to run in and out of stores or other places. But last week was warmer—high 20s, low 30s, a real heat wave in this part of the USA. Especially for January. So, one day, we ran to SuperTarget, which gives out free cookies, and to the library. Normally, when I go to the library with my twins, I go just to…

Frosty

Frosty

We woke up to a picturesque landscape this morning. Everything was miraculously painted with beautiful frost. It looked like an Ansel Adams photograph outside, but it was that much more incredible, because it was real life. On the way to school, the kids and I talked about how it was like God, in the middle of the night, took a tiny paintbrush and painted everything with white frost. To look like feathers, my kindergirl added. So lovely. Also on the…

This Just Never Gets Old

This Just Never Gets Old

My second oldest daughter—my five-year-old, my kinder-girl—lost her very first tooth at Mass on Gaudete Sunday. (Another cause for joy that day!) I wasn’t there for the event, because I had attended Mass earlier. (We currently “do the split shift,” as my husband calls it, because going to Mass with two-year-old twins is, well, too crazy.) But when she came home and showed me her new smile, she. was. beaming. She told me that it just fell out. And she…

Ever So Thankful

Ever So Thankful

I am ever so thankful for so many blessings … Here are just a few: + a wonderful, long-overdue date with my husband to celebrate our eighth anniversary. We went to a concert and then to Mass at a little French church in the city. Afterward, we ate dinner at a new Asian restaurant. We had drinks, appetizers, dinner, dessert—the works! It was so much fun! + my husband, who is the sensible one around here. He’s always helping me…

Ever So Thankful

Ever So Thankful

I am joining Barbara at Praying for Grace in her November Ever So Thankful posts. I thought this was such a beautiful idea, especially as I have been thinking about how we can bring a bit more thankfulness into our Thanksgiving Day this year … So, I am thankful for: + 64-degree days in November. We had a beautiful weekend! + Pumpkin scones at Starbucks. A wonderful fall treat. + These festive red cups that come out this time of…

A Few of My Favorite Things

A Few of My Favorite Things

The trio is really into The Sound of Music right now. They’ve seen it all the way up to the wedding. That’s where it ends for them, for now. But they are completely captivated by the music and all the singing children. I downloaded Do-Re-Mi from iTunes for them, because they wanted to learn all the words. Now I’m wondering if that was such a good idea =) Just kidding. I’m glad they like such wholesome entertainment. It’s just that…

Tuesday

Tuesday

My day started out with Confession and a little time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Then, I went into the main church for the Rosary and Mass. This is not how I begin everyday, but I do think it is the perfect way to start any day! We then headed to the library to listen to a fun Zydeco band and followed it up with a trip to Michaels for painting supplies. According to my husband, we are lacking…
